Thoughts & The Good,Bad & Ugly of the Steelers week 1

Steeler Nation wow that was a terrible game.  The Steelers came out in the first game of the season and fell flat on their faces, turning the ball over 7 times on offense and losing to the ravens 35-7. Ben Roethlisberger had 3 interceptions and fumbled the ball twice. Roethlisberger did have 1 touchdown pass to receiver Emmanuel Sanders.

Mike Wallace lead Steeler receivers with 8 catches  for 107 yard.  The Steelers running game never really had a chance to get going with the Steelers down big early.Running back Rashard Mendenhall led the Steelers with 45 yards on 12 carries.

The Steelers offensive line gave up 4 sacks and looked confused much of the game.

The Steelers defense played no better than the offense giving up 170 total rushing yards and a 5.5 yard average to the ravens . Ray Rice had 107 yards and a touchdown.  Ricky Williams ran 12 times for 63 yards. QB Joe Flacco  threw for 3 touchdown and faced virtually no pass rush, He was sacked only once in the game by linebacker LaMarr Woodley.

Steeler Nation its now time for the Good , Bad and Ugly of the game....

The Good : Not much good to say about this game but punter Dan Sepulveda had a good game with a net average 47.8 per punt. The fact that Emmanuel Sanders made a couple of key catches, one for a touchdown and showed no  signs of lingering foot problems, that he had dealt with all summer is a good thing. Mike Wallace 8 receptions for 107 yards seems to be picking up where he left off  last season.

The Bad : Lots of bad to go around in this game but Roethlisberger turning the ball over 5 times. 2 fumbles and 3 interceptions has to lead the way. The Steelers defense getting pushed around by the ravens offensive line is next on the list . Its been a long time since we seen a line dominate the Steelers defensive line in such a manner and lets hope its the last time for a long time .  Right tackle Willie Colon was injured late in the game and it was later found out he is out for the season. There was more bad but I think you get the picture.

The Ugly : The performance of the Steelers team as a whole. They seemed to be lacking the fire that they usually display vs. the ravens . It was as if they expect to just walk in there and have the win handed to them. They took it for granted that the ravens would lose. The ravens played like it was their Super Bowl and had changed up much of their blocking schemes and out physicaled the Steelers. The Steelers never really adjusted.
I think the lack of continuity on the Steeler's offensive line showed up big time . Legursky and Pouncey never really got the playing time together in camp or the preseason and it showed. Suggs had 3 sacks and the Steelers had 7 turnovers . No team that turns the ball over that often gives themselves a chance to win.  That was one of the ugliest games I have seen the Steelers play in years.

Well Steeler Nation its time to move on. The sooner I forget this game the better. Just remember that one game does not make a season. The Steelers and ravens will meet again Nov. 6th and I expect a different  outcome. The Steelers will rebound from this. This may be the wake up call they needed.

I hope you enjoyed my latest post and please spread the word about this blog. You can follow me and the blog on Twitter @STEELERSNSTUFF .  Stay strong Steeler Nation ! The Steelers will rebound and come back stronger!
