Steeler players & battles to watch Preseason Game 4

Steeler Nation , the third preseason game is now in the books. The Steelers won 36 -16. Ben  Roethlisberger and Antonio Brown continue to look great  in the preseason hooking up for touchdowns of 44 and 77 yards. The Steelers offense looks to be a powerhouse in the making .

No longer is there a question on who will be the Steelers starting right guard . Tony Hills performance was average at best . Hills needs more experience at the position . The Steelers have named Doug Legursky  the starter for game four of the preseason  and he looks to have won the  starting right guard spot.

QB Byron Leftwich broke his arm last week and now the question is who is the back up QB Charlie Batch or Dennis Dixon?

The defense  played at a high level last week and looks to be on the right track. The Steelers defense had two interceptions . One by Lawrence Timmons and another returned 95 yards for a TD by Crezdon Butler. The young guys of this secondary need to continue to take the next step and show they are NFL ready.

In the fourth preseason game against the Carolina Panthers tonight , the Steelers will rest many of their starters.  Ben Roethlisberger being among that group. The Steelers just want to give the young players that may be on the bubble one last chance  to prove they are worthy a roster spot and avoid any major injuries.

Here are some players to watch tonight that may need to have a good night ...

Running backs Jonathan Dwyer and John Clay : One of these backs has to step up and take the 4th Running back spot. Neither has been overwhelming so far but I think Dwyer has a slight edge.

Cornerbacks Cortez Allen and Donovan Warren : Cortez Allen gets his first chance to show what skills he has after being injured most of camp and the preseason. He may need to have a big game to make the team.
Donovan Warren has shown he may be worthy of a roster spot but must show more tonight.

Defensive tackles Steve McLendon and  Corbin Bryant : McLendon and Bryant have both shown flashes of  talent and are fighting hard for a roster spot. Some think they may be pushing veteran Chris Hoke for a spot.

Tight end Wesyle Saunders : Saunders seems to have all the tools but needs some experience and coaching up. Will the Steelers keep him or pick up a veteran after the final cuts?

Well Steeler Nation that's just a few  players to watch in tonight's final preseason game . Lets hope that there are no major injuries as we get ready for the regular season  next week. Enjoy the game!
