Adversity

Adversity … It can bring out the best in a person or the worst in a person . Adversity test one's metal. It can either make you or break you. You can either face it and become stronger from it and learn from its lessons or wilt and dwell forever on what could or should have been until it consume you.

The Pittsburgh Steelers have come to that point in the season where they will either face it and become stronger because of it or wilt and forever wonder what could have been .

True champions face adversity ,learn from it ,relish the challenge, and will not be denied no matter the circumstance ,trials or tribulations. In life its not how many times you fall down , but how many times you get up that's important.

Former kicker Jeff Reed could learn a lesson from this also. He chose to dwell on what could or should have been letting his adversity consume him. He was franchised this season and making 2.8 million as a top 5 kicker but did not like that the Steelers did not choose to sign him to a long term contract . He went as far as to call the Rooneys liars at training camp .

He spoke out many times about his dissatisfaction during the season . This and his off field antics and run ins with the law had tested the Steelers managements patience for awhile now. His recent inconsistent kicking spell was the final straw. That and his last meeting with the press where he went off on the kicking conditions at Heinz Field ,the fans ,and the media saying they are over critical. Reed could of handled all of this much better. He came off looking like an-excuse maker and a whiner Lets hope he has learned something from this all . He did have many good years and did a lot of good things for the community and charities also and for this we owe him thanks.

So now the Steelers are faced with much adversity. They are headed into an important game after getting their tails kicked by the New England Patriots . They have a new kicker and a lot of injuries , namely on the offensive and defensive lines, but such is life in the NFL.

The Patriots came back big after getting beat by the Browns and also have many injuries. The Steelers need to come back big this weekend after their loss. It won't be easy ,the Oakland Raiders have won 3 straight and are a team to reckon with as of late.

The bottom line is we shall see what the 2010 Steelers are made of this game and the games that follow. Will they wilt like pretenders or face adversity like true champions and come back stronger ? My guess is the latter but time will tell.
