Steeler Nation its that time of year again . The NFL draft has arrived and one thing is for sure the stars will be out tonight. The first round of the NFL draft begins tonight and every team will be trying to hitch it's wagon to a star . Every player taken tonight is thought by it's team to be the next big star. The next building block to a bright future.
In all my years of watching the draft after the pick is made a team representative is asked about the pick and every team is just gushing over their pick. For tonight these players are the key to the future, the best of the best in college football . Many of these players have been stars since pee wee football . The sad truth is tonight probably will be the last time that over half of them will be a star. The elite at their positions. Tonight is their night but many will never reach that level of success at the next level.
Every fan and team will be filled with hopes and expectations of this player being the next great one and that's whats so great about this time of the year. Every team has thoughts that this player could be a difference maker. The final piece of the Super Bowl winning puzzle and who can argue . Tonight they are all stars. Only time will tell if they will continue to shine bright or burn out and fade into the night.
Here is a look at some of the players the Steelers may draft in the first round tonight...
Dont'a Hightower inside linebacker Alabama 6-3 265 : Great run stopper,physical player with good size speed combo...very football smart ,defensive signal caller and two time team captain. Considered a team leader ,hard worker with good character. Should excel at next level.
Dontari Poe defensive tackle Memphis 6-3 346 : Did great at NFL combine raising stock with phenomenal strength and speed test results very fast for his size. Seems to have great upside but never really showed consistent greatness in games. Could be great or the next big bust.
Kevin Zeitler guard Wisconsin 6-4 314 : Great player with good size and strength . Excels at finishing blocks and plays with outstanding control and balance . Plays very smart and efficient . Hard working player with good character. Also excelled as a wrestler in prep school.
Nick Perry DE/OLB USC 6-2 271 : Great workout at NFL combine. Strong with explosive speed for size. Explosive speed coming off the edge... would convert to outside linebacker in Steeler's defense. Great physical specimen that looks the part. Lots of upside but workout results didn't match game results at times.
Steeler Nation its hard to say who the Steelers will pick this year its really up in the air. I believe they will take the best player that falls to them whom they have ranked on their draft board. I believe that pick will be Dont'a Hightower inside linebacker from Alabama . He has great leadership skills and is a great football player with football smarts. If they do not choose him I would love for Kevin Zeitler guard from Wisconsin to fall to them. He could really help the offensive line sooner rather than later.
