We May be down but we are not out ! Stand Strong!

Steeler Nation , its been over a week since the Steelers came up short on their quest for 7 and yes it was very diapointing but the bottom line is the Steelers just made too many big mistakes and could not come up with enough big plays of their own at key times .

That being said , I feel its very important to realize that we have a lot more to be proud of than to be down about. The Pittsburgh Steelers have made it to the Super Bowl 3 times in the last 6 years, winning 2 out of the 3 and having a chance of winning in all three.

That alone speaks volumes about what the Pittsburgh Steeler organization is all about . No other NFL team has been a more consistent contender for winning it all in the Super Bowl era . Steeler Nation, we are blessed as fans to know that even at the worst of times our team has a shot of doing big things. That everyone from ownership ,scouting , coaches and players have one goal and that's to win it all.

The Steelers fought their way through a lot of adversity to make it as far as they did. Not may people even predicted the Steelers to win the AFC North let alone become AFC champions. The off season problems, Roethlisberger's suspension ,the trade of WR Santonio Holmes ,season ending injuries to both offensive tackles, is the defense becoming too old?DE Arron Smith had a season ending injury. Will the Steelers be able to run the ball ? Well the Steelers answered all these challenges and more.

It was a great year of coaching by Mike Tomlin and his coaching staff . Tomlin proved the standard is the standard. The addition of offensive line coach Sean Kugler was a key pick up . Kugler and the entire unit preformed well under very tough circumstances. With a rash of injuries on the line , Kugler seemed to be plugging in different players at different positions weekly and still was effective.

The big time play of this Steelers rookie draft class can not be over looked. Center Maurkice Pouncey made the Pro bowl as a rookie and looks like an All Pro for years to come. Wide outs Emmanuel Sanders and Antonio Brown both made key plays during the season and playoffs and look to have a bright future. In limited playing time,Linebacker Jason Worilds showed flashes of the reason the Steelers drafted him .

Second year wide out Mike Wallace stepped it up and made up for the loss of Holmes and more with 60 catches for 1257 yards and 10 Tds . Hines Ward once again showed he is still very valuable as a wide out and continues to show the young wide outs how its done with his leadership skills. Second year DE Ziggy Hood filled in for Smith and made a lot of big plays and is proving to be a force all his own.

Rb Rashard Mendenhall is turning out to be a big time running back rushing for 1273 yards and 13 TDs . The Steelers have a great mix of youth and veteran leadership . The defense continued to play great as Safety Troy Polamalu won NFL defensive player of the year. Linebackers LaMarr Woodley and James Harrison continue to be forces on the outside pass rush . Both players had double digit sack totals once again. Inside Linebackers James Farrior continues to be an ageless wonder and LB Lawrence Timmons had a break out year .

QB Ben Roethlisberger is a franchise quarterback heading into the prime of his career . He showed maturity on and off the field this season . Ben has proven time and time again he is a winner on the field and seems determined to prove so off the field as well. I don't believe this is his last trip to the Super Bowl but time will tell.

So not all is bad . Many fans wish they could be in our shoes . Just ask a Brown or Lion fan what its like to even have a shot to win a Super Bowl or even make it to one. Steeler Nation it was a great season. Even the greats have bad days. We shall come back stronger. Great ones always do ! Stand Strong!
